Bryan King Predicts Cristian Romero Exit As Manchester United Eye Surprise Tottenham Raid

Tottenham captain Cristian Romero is expected to leave the club this summer, according to former Spurs senior scout Bryan King.

King’s prediction follows a significant defensive overhaul at the club under manager Roberto De Zerbi, signalling a clear shift in philosophy at North London.

Spurs have moved quickly to reshape their backline, completing a £52 million deal for Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke in a major statement of intent.

The club also secured the free transfer of Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth, adding further competition and depth to a position Romero has dominated in recent years.

Bryan King, speaking to Football Insider, argued that these two arrivals directly point toward an impending departure for the 28-year-old Argentine centre-back.

“Now, does that mean that Romero’s going to go?” King questioned, before offering a clear and direct verdict on the situation.

“I think Romero’s going to go. Whoever made him club captain, I could never ever understand that decision because you never knew whether he was going to finish a match. But again, he’s a world champion.”

King did not hold back in his wider assessment of how the defender’s time at Spurs ultimately unfolded despite his undeniable quality.

“He’s a tough South American defender. But playing for Tottenham, he became a loose cannon, didn’t he?” King added, reflecting on Romero’s volatile presence in the backline.

Romero’s reported public friction with club executives last season is said to have further complicated his standing within the hierarchy, making a summer exit appear logical for all parties involved.

Despite the turbulence surrounding his Spurs career, the World Cup winner retains enormous market value and interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Manchester United have been linked with a concrete move for Romero, with top-tier Argentine journalists confirming the Red Devils view him as a primary defensive target.

United are reportedly keen to pair him with his international teammate Lisandro Martínez at Old Trafford, a partnership that could prove formidable at the highest level.

Atletico Madrid have also maintained a long-standing interest in Romero, with Diego Simeone understood to be a significant admirer of his compatriot’s combative style.

Barcelona have entered the conversation as well, with Deco reportedly keen on bringing the Spurs star to the Camp Nou as part of a broader defensive rebuild.

Real Madrid have also been linked with a move for Romero, with new boss Jose Mourinho reportedly keen on raiding his former club to secure the Argentine’s signature.
