Arteta Targets Aston Villa Defender Ezri Konsa In £60m Arsenal Move

Arsenal are considering a summer move for Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa, though their interest remains at an early stage as attacking reinforcements take priority.

The Telegraph has reported that Konsa is on Arsenal’s radar as the Gunners assess their defensive options heading into the transfer window.

The 27-year-old has established himself as one of Villa’s most reliable performers, with the Midlands club placing a valuation of around £60m on his head.

Mikel Arteta is understood to be driving the interest, with talkSPORT reporting that the Arsenal manager views Konsa as a player capable of adding genuine quality and experience to his backline.

Konsa’s appeal is straightforward to understand, given his proven ability to play both centre-back and right-back at Premier League level with consistent effectiveness.

That versatility would be particularly attractive to Arteta, with Arsenal requiring reliable depth across multiple defensive positions to compete throughout a long and demanding season.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Konsa is complicated by their simultaneous strong interest in his Villa and England teammate Morgan Rogers, who has been among their top attacking targets this summer.

Villa’s valuation of Rogers has already made that deal difficult, and adding Konsa to the conversation could make negotiations between the two clubs considerably more delicate.

Villa are in a strong negotiating position and are reportedly reluctant to lose multiple key players in a single transfer window, making the prospect of selling both Rogers and Konsa to Arsenal a significant concern.

Arsenal face a genuine strategic question about whether committing £60m to Konsa might ultimately harm their chances of landing Rogers, who currently appears to be the higher priority target.

Konsa’s reliability, adaptability, and existing familiarity with Premier League demands would reduce the usual risk attached to a major transfer, making him a sensible target at the right price.

However, Villa’s current £60m valuation sits higher than Arsenal are willing to pay at this stage, leaving the move some way from reaching a conclusion.

If Arsenal cannot find a way to meet Villa’s asking price or negotiate it down, the club may need to explore cheaper defensive alternatives and keep their primary focus firmly on Rogers.
