Roberto De Zerbi Eyes 50-Goal Liverpool Forward Cody Gakpo In Ambitious Summer Push

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly targeting Liverpool attacker Cody Gakpo as Roberto De Zerbi looks to strengthen his attacking options this summer.

The north London club have already made one move involving a Liverpool player, signing Andrew Robertson on a free transfer after the Scottish international departed upon the expiry of his contract.

Spurs are now believed to be eyeing a second piece of business involving a current or former Liverpool player, with Gakpo firmly in their sights heading into the transfer window.

The 25-year-old Dutch international is a versatile operator capable of playing across the front line, covering either flank as well as a central attacking role, making him an appealing target.

Gakpo has contributed impressively since joining Liverpool, registering 50 goals and 23 assists during his time at the club, underlining his quality at the highest level of the game.

Despite those numbers, reports suggest Liverpool could be open to selling the Netherlands international if the right offer arrives and a quality replacement can be secured this summer.

According to Soccer News, Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi is keen to convince Gakpo to make the move to the capital, with the club seeing him as a statement signing.

Clubs from Spain and Germany are also understood to be monitoring Gakpo’s situation, meaning Tottenham could face significant competition if they decide to push ahead with a formal approach.

Gakpo is contracted to Liverpool until 2030, and any deal is expected to cost in the region of €60 million, a fee that would represent a serious financial commitment from Spurs.

Tottenham clearly need to add more depth and quality in the final third, and the versatile Dutch forward fits the profile of player De Zerbi is looking to bring to the club.

With Gakpo said to be attracted to the prospect of a regular starting role, a move to north London could appeal to him given his ambitions at what is considered the peak of his career.

Whether Liverpool are genuinely willing to part with a player of his quality and experience remains the key question, with the outcome likely to shape Tottenham’s entire attacking recruitment strategy.
