Burnley Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka Leads Tottenham’s Shortlist For Back-Up Stopper Role

Tottenham Hotspur have identified Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dubravka as their leading candidate to fill a back-up goalkeeper position this summer.

The North London club are prioritising the addition of an experienced shot-stopper as they enter what looks to be a significant rebuilding phase ahead of the new season.

According to highly respected Tottenham insider Paul O’Keefe, the club has drawn up a specific shortlist of targets to fill the secondary role between the sticks.

O’Keefe revealed that 37-year-old Slovakian international Dubravka has emerged at the very top of that list of candidates.

The veteran goalkeeper currently plies his trade at Burnley and brings with him a wealth of Premier League experience that Spurs’ hierarchy considers invaluable.

Dubravka is not the only name being considered, with O’Keefe noting the club have narrowed their search down to a shortlist of three to four goalkeepers.

Brighton and Hove Albion’s Jason Steele and Leeds United’s Karl Darlow are also among the names being actively tracked by the club.

The recruitment activity comes amid expectations of a complete goalkeeping overhaul at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during the current transfer window.

Current first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is widely expected to depart the club, with Inter Milan among the top sides said to have registered strong interest in the Italian stopper.

Antonin Kinsky, who stepped in for Vicario during the latter part of the season, impressed with a string of strong performances that helped Spurs avoid relegation.

Whether those performances were enough to convince new head coach Roberto De Zerbi to hand him the starting role on a permanent basis, however, remains entirely unclear.

James Trafford is another goalkeeper who has been strongly linked with a move to Spurs as the club plots its summer strategy.

Landing a proven Premier League operator like Dubravka would ensure De Zerbi has reliable, experienced cover regardless of how the starting goalkeeper situation ultimately resolves itself.
