Chelsea Target Crystal Palace Defender Lacroix With Swap Deal Option On The Table

Chelsea’s summer transfer activity is sharpening in focus, with defensive reinforcement emerging as a key priority for the club heading into the new season.

After a campaign disrupted by injuries, inconsistent partnerships and squad uncertainty at the back, the Blues are determined to bring in a centre-back capable of making an immediate impact.

According to The Athletic, Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix has been identified as a primary defensive target for Chelsea, with Como’s Jacobo Ramon also attracting interest from the club.

Lacroix represents the more ready-made option of the two, having already accumulated valuable Premier League experience since moving to England.

Crystal Palace confirmed in 2024 that Lacroix joined from Wolfsburg on a five-year deal, giving him a firm footing in English top-flight football before this reported interest emerged.

talkSPORT has also reported that Chelsea are pursuing the French defender and could include players such as Trevoh Chalobah, Tosin Adarabioyo, Axel Disasi, or Benoit Badiashile in a possible swap deal.

Palace are unlikely to part with Lacroix cheaply, which makes the potential player exchange an attractive route for Chelsea to explore rather than paying over the odds.

The Sun has also claimed Chelsea are considering offering players as part of a deal, although formal talks had not started at the time of its report.

Ramon would represent a very different kind of acquisition, with the Spanish centre-back younger and less proven in English football but holding an interesting profile for the future.

Yahoo Sports reported that Chelsea have shown interest in the Como defender, who is partly owned by Real Madrid following his move from Spain.

Chelsea’s squad already contains a significant number of young players still developing, which raises questions about whether adding another project defender is the right call at this stage.

A centre-back with the pace and physicality to operate in a higher defensive line would address a clear structural need within the team’s setup.

If the club’s priority is an immediate upgrade at the back, Lacroix stands out as the candidate most likely to deliver that from the first day of the season.

The defensive department has arguably been the area holding Chelsea back from sustained consistency, and landing the right profile of player could prove more transformative than any attacking addition this window.
