Joe Gelhardt Poised For Permanent Hull City Move As Leeds United Close The Door

Gelhardt’s impressive loan spell at Hull City appears set to end with a permanent transfer, with Leeds United making clear he has no future at Elland Road.

The 24-year-old striker joined Hull on a temporary basis last season and delivered a standout campaign in the Championship for the Tigers.

Gelhardt scored 15 goals during his loan spell and also contributed six assists, totalling 21 goal involvements across the season.

His performances played a significant role in helping Hull City secure promotion to the Premier League for next season.

With the Tigers now stepping up to the top flight, the club will be eager to secure Gelhardt’s services on a permanent basis ahead of their return to elite football.

Journalist Beren Cross has offered a clear-eyed assessment of the situation, suggesting Leeds will weigh up their options before agreeing to any deal.

In his update for The Athletic, Cross stated: “Hull’s promotion to the Premier League and Gelhardt’s success there would suggest a deal can be done, but Leeds will see who else likes the forward and what they will be willing to pay.”

Cross was equally direct about Gelhardt’s standing at Leeds, adding: “Hard to see a route back for Gelhardt at Leeds.”

Leeds will likely listen to offers from multiple clubs, meaning Hull City cannot afford to drag their feet in negotiations if they want to retain the striker.

For Gelhardt, a permanent move to Hull City would offer him the stability and regular playing time he needs at this stage of his career.

At 24, the attacker is entering what should be his most productive years and will be keen to compete consistently at the highest level.

Hull City’s promotion means Gelhardt could play Premier League football next season, making a permanent switch an attractive proposition for all parties involved.

The Tigers will need quality and experience in their attacking options as they prepare for the demands of life back in the Premier League.

Gelhardt has already shown he can contribute meaningfully at Championship level, and Hull’s coaching staff will be confident he can make the step up.

Both club and player appear well-aligned on the move, and with Leeds ready to move him on, a deal could be wrapped up relatively quickly this summer.
