Liverpool are reportedly confident about securing the signatures of two exciting wingers while the World Cup continues this summer.
The Reds have already been linked with hijacking Newcastle United’s move for Osasuna and Spain winger Victor Munoz, with a potential medical reportedly possible in the United States.
According to BBC Sport, Liverpool have made significant progress in their pursuit of Munoz, who has been turning heads at the tournament with his performances for Spain.
Now reporter Ben Jacobs has indicated that Liverpool are simultaneously working on a deal for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, who represents the Ivory Coast at international level.
Diomande is just 19 years old, and Liverpool face serious competition from PSG in their efforts to secure the highly rated teenager’s signature this summer.
“Understand Liverpool are still working on Yan Diomande in addition to Victor Muñoz and are optimistic. There is competition from PSG, and it is not discounted by suitors that a deal for his signature is closed during the World Cup,” Jacobs posted on X.
The urgency around Liverpool’s attacking recruitment is understandable given that the club have recently lost the legendary Mohamed Salah from their squad.
Matters are further complicated by the fact that Hugo Ekitike is injured and expected to remain sidelined for the remainder of the year, leaving the attack short of numbers.
With Cody Gakpo and last summer’s arrivals Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz reportedly looking underwhelming, the pressure on the club to act decisively in the market has intensified considerably.
Completing both the Diomande and Munoz deals during the tournament would represent a significant statement of intent from incoming manager Andoni Iraola as he prepares for his first season in charge.
Diomande in particular is considered a potentially world class talent despite his limited experience, while Munoz is also seen as a player capable of building a strong career at the top level.
