Manchester United are closing in on a busy Friday as the club prepares to formally announce two new signings in a single day.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos successfully completed his medical in Manchester ahead of his move from Chelsea.
Santos is now set to put pen to paper on his contract on Friday morning, following the completion of all necessary legal documentation between both clubs.
Manchester United have agreed a deal worth £50 million to secure the services of the 22-year-old from their Premier League rivals.
Chelsea negotiated a 10% sell-on clause as part of the agreement, ensuring the London club retains a financial stake in the player’s future.
Santos will sign a long-term contract running until June 2031, with the deal also including an option for a further year beyond that date.
Simultaneously, United have also wrapped up a move for veteran goalkeeper Karl Darlow, with Romano providing his signature “here we go” confirmation on the deal.
The 35-year-old arrives on a free transfer from Leeds United and will serve as the primary homegrown understudy to starting goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
Darlow’s arrival is expected to facilitate a squad reshuffle, clearing the path for Altay Bayindir to finalise his exit, with Besiktas leading the chase for his signature.
Beyond the expected double announcement, Atalanta midfielder Ederson is currently undergoing medical assessments after a transfer package worth €44 million was fully agreed with the Serie A club.
Romano has confirmed that the final verdict on the 26-year-old’s medical examinations is expected to arrive this week, with United ready to give their answer soon.
Should Ederson pass his assessments, he would become Manchester United’s third signing of the summer, further bolstering the club’s midfield options.
The potential arrivals of Santos and Ederson would represent a major statement of intent from United, who are prioritising energy, physicality and technical quality in the centre of the pitch.
The club is preparing for a new season that includes a return to Champions League football, making this period of squad-building particularly significant for manager Carrick’s project.
