Manchester City are showing strong interest in Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto as the club looks to strengthen its defensive options this summer.
According to a report from Hooligan Soccer, Gusto’s representatives are in active contact with both Manchester City and AC Milan over a potential summer move.
The French defender has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot at Stamford Bridge, with Reece James expected to be first choice when fully fit.
Manchester City have been deploying Matheus Nunes at right-back, but the Portuguese midfielder is widely regarded as better suited to a central midfield role.
Gusto made a strong case for himself last season regardless, registering eight goal contributions and showing he is capable of performing at the highest level.
Enzo Maresca is set to take charge at Manchester City, and the manager is already familiar with Gusto having worked closely with him during his time at Chelsea.
That existing relationship could prove a significant factor in pushing the deal forward, with Maresca likely to know exactly how to get the best from the defender.
Chelsea are believed to value the player at around $75 million, equivalent to roughly £57m, which represents a significant but achievable outlay for one of football’s wealthiest clubs.
Gusto is contracted at Stamford Bridge until 2030, meaning Chelsea hold a strong negotiating position and will not be pressured into selling below their valuation.
However, given that a regular starting place is far from guaranteed in west London, the club may be willing to sanction a departure if the right offer arrives.
For Gusto himself, a move to Manchester City would offer the prospect of consistent football under a manager who already trusts and understands him.
The situation remains fluid, but with his representatives in dialogue with multiple clubs, a transfer before the summer window closes looks increasingly likely.
