Real Madrid Target Josko Gvardiol As Manchester City Put Contract Offer On Table

Real Madrid are pushing hard to sign Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol this summer, with the Croatian international emerging as a top defensive priority for the Spanish club.

The 24-year-old has become one of the most talked-about names in the current transfer window, with his future generating significant attention across Europe’s biggest clubs.

Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg has provided the latest update, revealing that Gvardiol faces a clear and straightforward decision between two distinct options for his immediate future.

The first path available to Gvardiol is signing a contract extension with Manchester City, with a concrete offer already formally placed on the table by Etihad officials that would take him beyond his current 2028 expiry date.

The second option involves completing a high-profile move to the Santiago Bernabeu, with Real Madrid’s interest described as concrete and very much alive at this stage of the window.

Manchester City are working aggressively behind the scenes to keep hold of their prized defensive asset, making clear they have no intention of letting him leave without a serious fight.

Bayern Munich, meanwhile, have been ruled completely out of the running, with club executives deciding the total economic package involved is far too expensive for a position they do not see as an immediate priority.

Barcelona have also registered an interest in the Croatian, adding further intrigue to what is shaping up to be one of the summer’s most compelling transfer sagas.

Gvardiol joined Manchester City from RB Leipzig in August 2023 for a fee in the region of €90 million, and he has since proven himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

Across 122 senior appearances for City, the left-footed defender has demonstrated impressive tactical versatility, operating convincingly as both a center-back and a highly progressive left-back under Pep Guardiola.

His time at the Etihad has brought considerable silverware, with a Premier League title, an FA Cup, and a League Cup all added to his trophy cabinet since his arrival.

Gvardiol has also contributed significantly at the attacking end, netting 11 goals across his City career to further cement his value to the squad.

With Europe’s biggest clubs circling, the decision now rests entirely with the defender as he weighs a lucrative renewal in Manchester against the prospect of joining Real Madrid.
