A Miami Beach construction company owner has recovered a valuable piece of equipment after a brazen theft.
Anthony Son, owner of Ti Con Building Systems, confirmed police found his $100,000 compressor on Friday afternoon.
The compressor was located in Virginia Gardens after being stolen from a worksite.
Son said the theft caused him to lose an entire day of work.
He now plans to change his company’s security protocols to prevent future incidents.
Theft Occurred at Condo Restoration Site
“Really have to protect your equipment and your belongings,” Son stated.
“We’re gonna step up the effort now and start to do some different things with our equipment,” he added.
The high-value heist began shortly after midnight on Friday.
It occurred at a condo building on the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and 16th Street in Miami Beach.
The site had been undergoing concrete restoration by Son’s company for the past year.
Crews had left the compressor behind a locked gate on the property.
“Never would have imagined this, particularly on a street that has this much traffic and movement,” Son remarked.
Employee Witnesses and Photographs Theft
The theft was partially witnessed by one of Son’s employees who lives near the construction site.
The employee heard activity outside and went to investigate.
He managed to take two photographs of the incident.
The photos appeared to show a woman in heels guiding a person driving a truck.
The truck had the company’s compressor hooked onto the back.
“It may have been a crime of opportunity, we’re not quite sure,” Son said.
“She appeared to be guiding the truck as to traffic, movement and where to hook up and hitch to the compressor,” he explained.
Police successfully located and recovered the compressor later the same day.
It remains unclear if any arrests have been made in connection with the theft.
