Crysencio Summerville has announced himself on the international stage with a superb curling finish to put the Netherlands ahead against Japan.
The West Ham winger’s goal came after Virgil van Dijk had given the Dutch the lead in the 50th minute with a well-taken header past the goalkeeper.
Japan refused to roll over, responding almost immediately with a goal from the edge of the box from Nakamura to level the scores.
Summerville then stepped up to restore the Dutch advantage, cutting inside and curling a left-footed effort into the bottom left corner.
Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch was instrumental in the buildup, carving through Japan’s midfield before finding Summerville in space on the right flank.
The 24-year-old showed great composure and technique, shaping onto his left foot and bending the ball perfectly beyond the goalkeeper to make it 2-1.
It was Summerville’s first goal at international level, and he could not have picked a more significant stage to open his account for the Netherlands.
The goal will only add to the growing interest surrounding the winger, with several clubs chasing his signature ahead of the summer transfer window.
Tottenham, who had already attempted to bring Summerville to north London during the January window, have re-entered the race under manager Roberto De Zerbi.
Manchester United are also reportedly keen on the winger, while Serie A clubs AS Roma, Napoli, and AC Milan have all been linked with moves for him.
West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League has placed the club under significant financial pressure, making it increasingly difficult to retain the £40 million-rated Dutchman.
A potential summer bidding war for Summerville could prove to be a crucial financial lifeline for the struggling London club as they plan for life outside the top flight.
