William Gallas Tips Chelsea To Make £40m Move For Marcus Rashford This Summer

Chelsea could make a surprise move for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, according to former Blues defender William Gallas.

Gallas believes the Stamford Bridge club would be a strong Premier League destination if Rashford departs Old Trafford this summer.

Rashford’s future is wide open after Barcelona chose not to activate their option to sign him on a permanent basis.

The England international spent last season on loan at the Nou Camp, producing a strong campaign under manager Hansi Flick.

Rashford scored 14 goals in all competitions during his time in Spain, suggesting he retained the quality many had questioned in his final Manchester United months.

Despite the option to sign him permanently being available for around £26m, Barcelona decided not to proceed with the deal.

Reports also indicate that Manchester United are unwilling to negotiate another loan arrangement with the Catalan club, leaving Rashford’s next move entirely unresolved.

Gallas, speaking in comments relayed by Metro, offered a clear view on where the forward should head next, saying “I think Marcus Rashford did well at Barcelona.”

“They had a good system. I’m surprised he didn’t sign for them permanently, I don’t know what happened,” Gallas continued, adding “I would say Chelsea would be a better fit given how they play.”

“I’m sure he wanted to stay in Barcelona, but it didn’t happen. If he has to come back to the Premier League, or maybe go somewhere else like Italy, we will see. But I could picture him at Chelsea,” Gallas concluded.

Chelsea are building a faster and more direct attacking unit under Xabi Alonso, which could make Rashford’s profile an appealing addition to the squad.

His pace, ability to exploit space, and experience competing at elite level would offer the Blues a genuine threat from the left flank.

Rashford is reported to have a £40m release clause in his Manchester United contract, though certain Premier League clubs are blocked from triggering it.

His performances for England at the World Cup could further boost his market value, with talkSPORT reporting that he impressed against Croatia.

Chelsea have not made any formal approach at this stage, but with Barcelona stepping away and United seeking clarity, this transfer story could develop quickly.
