There’s no denying that Lionel Messi has a major influence on what goes on at Inter Miami. However, that impact might not only stop at the Argentine attacker and might extend to his immediate impact.
When Messi decided that his European career was over after leaving PSG in 2023, he opted to head to the United States. He joined Inter Miami, and when the MLS side decided it would be Messi’s destination, they knew that signing him would mean the player has a say on what goes on.
Bringing in Messi led to the signings of Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Luis Suárez. All three are former teammates and players he is comfortable with on the pitch. Moreover, the coaches that Inter Miami has hired since Messi’s arrival all had a connection to him in Gerardo Martino and Javier Mascherano.
Nonetheless, could this influence be impacting players decision to sign with Inter Miami?
Is Lionel Messi’s family having an impact on Inter Miami?

Former D.C. United and Atlanta United midfielder Mateusz Klich sparked controversy in a Foot Truck interview, accusing Lionel Messi’s father, Jorge Messi, of wielding significant influence over Inter Miami’s operations. Klich even claimed Jorge has advised players against joining the club while Messi is still on the roster.
“I don’t recommend Miami while Messi is there,” Klich (h/t Bolavip). “It’s a disaster; people are leaving, coaches and physios are leaving. Organizationally, it’s terrible. Messi’s father [Jorge Messi] practically runs the club. Everyone speaks Spanish and you can’t do anything without his consent. The club itself is 45-50 minutes away from Miami.”
Nonetheless, the influence that Messi and, from what it seems, his family also have won’t be going away anytime soon. ESPN reported on September 17, citing sources, that Messi and Inter Miami are close to finalizing a new multiyear contract for the club captain, with just a few details left to be agreed upon
