Inter Miami remain winless in their last two games with three matches left in the 2025 MLS season after falling 5-3 to the Chicago Fire on Tuesday night at Chase Field.
Luis Suárez netted twice and Tomás Avilés added another to account for all of Inter Miami’s goals, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Fire. Chicago struck early, with Dje D’Avilla opening the scoring in the 11th minute before Jonathan Dean doubled the lead in the 31st.
Inter Miami got on the board in the 39th minute when Avilés converted a close-range finish off a corner, marking his second goal of the regular season. Chicago responded quickly, though, as Rominigue Kouamé scored in the 43rd minute to make it 3-1 heading into halftime.
The Herons came close early in the second half, with Lionel Messi and Tadeo Allende both hitting the woodwork in the 52nd minute. Suárez pulled one back in the 57th to bring Inter Miami within a goal.
Suárez completed his brace in the 74th minute, curling a shot to the far post to finish a slick team move and level the score at 3-3. Chicago, however, struck twice in quick succession—Justin Reynolds in the 80th and Brian Gutiérrez in the 83rd—to secure a 5-3 win.
Could Inter Miami Be In Trouble?

With the MLS playoffs nearing, Michelle Kaufman of the Miami Herald stated that there are worrying signs with this team. MLS squads are supposed to be peaking at this time of the year. However, Inter Miami could be going in the wrong direction.

“This team has played 54 games,” Kaufman said on the “Inside Inter Miami” podcast. “There are a lot of teams in this league that have played 34 MLS games and a couple of preseason games, and that’s it. This team has played 54 games, including all the cups, plus five preseason matches—they went to Peru, Honduras, Panama, and Las Vegas.
“Now, at the end of the season, after traveling all over the place, after playing 54 games, after competing in three tournaments and going far, they don’t have any trophy to show for it. They reached the semifinals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup, advanced to the knockout stage of the Club World Cup—which is the best we could have hoped for—and then reached the final of the League Cup.
“So, no trophies, but they played a lot of games during those stretches. When they’re supposed to be at their best because of the American playoff system, they look exhausted. They look tired. If they’re going to struggle at the time of the season when they need to be at their best, it’s worrisome for Inter Miami fans.”
