The 2025 MLS season is entering the final stretch of the campaign, and while teams will look to position themselves for a playoff push, there are players also figuring out what the future holds for them.
Several MLS clubs, including Inter Miami, will have players with contracts expiring at the end of this season. Let’s look at the South Florida team’s expiring contracts, focusing only on permanent deals and not loan agreements.
Luis Suarez (38): Contract expires December 31, 2025
The former Liverpool and Barcelona goal scorer could be playing out the final months with Inter Miami and perhaps his career, considering Suarez will be 39 years old in January 2026. Despite his age, the Uruguayan has recorded 11 goals and 15 assists in 36 total games so far for the MLS club.
Nonetheless, with his contract expiring at the end of this year, Inter Miami will likely need to focus on finding a younger striker to maximize the Lionel Messi window as the Argentine is reportedly in talks to extend his contract past this season.
Lionel Messi (38): Contract expires December 31, 2025

Speaking of Messi, the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner is out of a deal after this season, but as mentioned above, he’s reportedly in talks to sign a contract extension. This season, Messi has recorded 25 goals and 11 assists in 32 total games.
However, until he puts pen to paper, nothing is official. Many assumed he would extend his contract with Barcelona in 2021, but that didn’t happen, leading to a move to PSG. As a result, anything is possible, but it seems that Messi will continue in South Florida.
Sergio Busquets (37): Contract expires December 31, 2025
Another former Barcelona player whose contract expires is Busquets, and he’s likely to depart, considering Inter Miami brought in Rodrigo De Paul this summer. As a result, the 31-year-old appears to be the long-term replacement for Busquets. With what could be the Spanish midfielder’s last season with the South Florida side, he has recorded eight assists in 37 total games.
Ian Fray (22): Contract expires December 31, 2025
The young defender has played in 18 total games for Inter Miami this season, racking up over 1,000 minutes played for the club. It will be interesting to see whether Fray has done enough for the front office to keep him for the foreseeable future considering his age and potential for sale down the road.
Ryan Sailor (26): Contract expires December 31, 2025

Sailor has only appeared in four total games this season for Inter Miami, so it’s safe to say that he will be moving on when his contract expires later this year.
William Yarbrough (36): Contract expires December 31, 2025
The veteran Yarbrough has yet to play for Inter Miami this season, so unless the club wants a reliable backup for 2026, his time in South Florida will likely end when the 2025 campaign concludes.
Honorable mentions
The following players are ones whose contract expires at the end of the season. However, Inter Miami can extend their contract that allows them to stay, so their deals aren’t expiring outright.
David Ruiz: Inter Miami have a two-year club option after this season to extend the 21-year-old’s contract through 2025.
Yannick Bright: Like Ruiz, Bright has a two-year club option that Inter Miami can trigger to keep him past the 2025 season.
Noah Allen: Another young player with a two-year club option is the 21-year-old left back.
Fafa Picault: The veteran attacker has a one-year club option that Inter Miami can trigger to keep him for the 2026 MLS season.
