Javier Mascherano is in Year 1 as Inter Miami manager, but even though he’s new to the job, the Argentine boss has already recorded impressive wins with the South Florida side.
Mascherano took over for fellow Argentine Gerardo Martino in November 2024, and it’s his first experience managing at the club level after coaching the Argentina U20 and Argentina U23. So, let’s look at the top five standout wins that Mascherano has had since taking over.
Inter Miami 4-1 Houston Dynamo FC (March 3, 2025)

After drawing in his first MLS match as Inter Miami manager, Mascherano got his first league win in impressive fashion, with the Herons securing an impressive four-goal win over the Houston Dynamo on Matchday 2. Luis Suárez would be the star in this contest as he was involved in all four goals (three assists and one goal). Moreover, two of the Uruguayan’s three assists were on the brace scored by Telasco Segovia.
Inter Miami 3-1 Los Angeles FC (April 10, 2025)
In the second leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinal matchup against LAFC, Mascherano had to rally his team after dropping the first leg 1-0. Moreover, in that second leg, the South Florida club was down 2-0 on aggregate after giving up the first goal of the contest.
Nonetheless, with three goal contributions from Lionel Messi (one goal and two assists), Inter Miami was able to turn the tie around and secure a 3-2 aggregate win over LAFC to advance to the semifinals of the Champions Cup.
Inter Miami 5-1 Columbus Crew (June 1, 2025)
One of Mascherano’s most convincing wins as Inter Miami manager came early in the summer, when the Herons put five past the Crew, with Lionel Messi playing a part in four of them. The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner recorded three goal contributions in the first 24 minutes of the contest and added one more in the second half to cap off an impressive win for the South Florida club.
Inter Miami 2-1 FC Porto (June 19, 2025)

Of the three MLS clubs participating in the FIFA Club World Cup, Inter Miami was the only one to advance to the knockout stage, and the key reason for that was their surprise win over FC Porto in the group stage. After Porto opened the scoring, the Herons scored two unanswered goals, with Segovia scoring the leveling goal and Messi adding the eventual game-winner for Inter Miami to pull off the upset win.
Inter Miami 5-1 New York Red Bulls (July 20, 2025)
After the New York Red Bulls opened the scoring, Inter Miami scored five unanswered goals for the convincing win as it was the second time that Mascherano and his squad had scored five goals in an MLS contest this season. Messi was involved in three of the five goals with his first involvement coming off a goal from Jordi Alba. Afterward, the Argentine recording a brace in the second half to cap off an amazing performance for the squad.
