David Beckham’s top 5 most expensive signings as Inter Miami owner

Inter Miami was founded in 2018 as an expansion club in MLS and began play in 2020. Nonetheless, since their arrival, the South Florida club have never shied away from spending a significant amount of money to not only be a competitive team but one that challenges for the league title every season.

While Lionel Messi and his former FC Barcelona teammates are expensive arrivals, Inter Miami didn’t have to pay a transfer fee and signed all of them as free agents. So, let’s take a look at the top five most expensive transfer signings in the club’s history.

Rodolfo Pizarro (€10.9M)

Pizarro is the most expensive transfer signing in Inter Miami history when David Beckham and Co. decided to pull the Mexican player from Liga MX to become one of the foundational pieces in the club’s early years. Nonetheless, the move didn’t go as planned for Inter Miami.

The attacking midfielder played three years for the Herons before leaving on loan for the 2022-23 season and eventually departing permanently in 2023. During his tenure with the MLS side, Pizarro made 62 total appearances while scoring seven goals and recording 10 assists. The 31-year-old is currently playing for Liga MX side FC Juárez.

Matías Pellegrini (€8.1M)

Another underwhelming signing for Inter Miami, as Pellegrini was brought to the United States as a promising young Argentine. However, he didn’t fulfill the promise that the South Florida side had when they paid that significant sum to Estudiantes. Pellegrini had several loan stints during his time with Inter Miami, where he made 20 total appearances while scoring one goal and recording two assists. He would leave the club in 2022 and is currently playing for the Argentine side Vélez Sarsfield.

Federico Redondo (€7.4M)

After whiffing on their top two most expensive signings in club history, Inter Miami finally hit on a player in Redondo, signing him in 2024. The 22-year-old joined the Herons from the Argentine side Argentinos Juniors and would proceed to become a key player in the midfield for the MLS club. Redondo would make 60 total appearances for Inter Miami, scoring two goals and recording four assists.

Following two years with the South Florida club, Redondo left in August 2025 to join La Liga side Elche as he took the next step in his young career to play in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

Tomás Avilés (€6.3M)

Inter Miami put out the money for another young Argentine in Tomás Avilés, who joined the club as a teenager from Racing Club in 2023. Since arriving at the club, the center-back has made 76 total appearances for Inter Miami, scoring three goals and recording two assists. Moreover, he was part of the group that won Leagues Cup in 2023.

Julián Carranza (€5.4M)

Another young Argentine who didn’t work out at Inter Miami. Carranza officially joined the club in 2019, but didn’t play his first game for the Herons until 2020. He would make 42 total appearances while scoring three goals, and he would eventually leave in 2022 to join MLS side Philadelphia Union. Carranza left the Union in 2024 to sign with Dutch club Feyenoord, where he’s currently playing.
