Inter Miami dominated the New England Revolution with a 4-1 victory Saturday night at Chase Stadium.

Jordi Alba and Tadeo Allende scored twice, delivering standout performances which resulted in positive vibes heading into the postgame tribute to Sergio Busquets, who recently announced he will retire at the end of the season.

After a few quiet matches, Lionel Messi was back to his brilliant best. The Argentine playmaker opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, sending a perfectly timed through ball to Allende after a clever turn, allowing him to finish from the right side.

Messi made another impact before halftime, capitalizing on a poor clearance from goalkeeper Matt Turner. He slipped past a defender and set up Alba for a simple close-range finish, putting Miami firmly in control.

Inter Miami announced Monday that Messi, Alba, and Allende have been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday presented by Audi for Week 38 of the 2025 regular season.

After playing key roles in Inter Miami’s 4-1 home victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday, the trio earned the honors.

For Messi, it marks his 12th Team of the Matchday selection this season. The Argentine star provided three assists in the win, bringing his season totals to 24 goals and 17 assists.

With that performance, he became just the second player in MLS history to record at least 40 combined goals and assists in a single regular season, joining Vela, who set the mark with 49 for LAFC in 2019.

Messi has pulled level with LAFC’s Bouanga at the top of the Golden Boot race, with both players sitting on 24 goals this regular season. Meanwhile, Alba earned another nod to the Team of the Matchday — his fourth selection of the year.

The Spanish defender played a key role in the win, scoring twice. Messi took advantage of a defensive lapse before setting up Alba in the box for his first goal of the night, a close-range finish that marked his fourth of the campaign.
