Inter Miami striker Luis Suarez is in the spotlight following Sergio Busquets’ announcement that he will retire from professional football. The Uruguayan didn’t arrive during the summer of 2023, but his arrival wasn’t long after and so with his contract expiring after this season, the question is what happens next?
Before Inter Miami’s 1-1 draw with Toronto FC last Saturday, Busquets spoke with Apple TV, opening up for the first time about his decision to retire after the 2025 MLS season.
“Well, it’s clear that I knew this was my last year under contract,” Busquets said. “After so many years, so many games, so many trips, it takes a toll not just physically, but mentally as well. Both my family and I felt this was the right decision, and that my story in football would end here. As I’ve said before, I’ve given my all to the sport, learned from it, and from life, and that’s about it.”

With Busquets making it official that he will be hanging his boots after this season, the question is will the veteran goal scorer follow him too? Well, one report reveals that Suarez might not be done playing football in South Florida.
Uruguayan journalist Juan Pablo Romero reports that Suarez received an offer for a contract renewal with Inter Miami. Furthermore, the former Liverpool star is considering that proposal.

Suarez still shows he can produce, as his goals against the Chicago Fire showed, despite the loss. However, Inter Miami needs to consider getting younger in certain positions. Rodrigo De Paul’s arrival allowed for the Herons to have a young replacement for Busquets, and it would be ideal for the club to go down this path with Suarez.
It will be interesting to see what both sides decide to do, but that decision should come at the end of the season.
