Inter Miami opened a new chapter in 2023 when Lionel Messi arrived, and Sergio Busquets joined him that summer to strengthen the squad.

That era is beginning to wind down, as the club recently announced that Busquets will retire following the 2025 MLS season, ending his storied playing career.

“Inter Miami CF announces that Sergio Busquets will retire at the end of the current season, with the MLS playoffs marking the final matches of his professional career,” the press release said.

“Since joining Inter Miami CF in 2023, Busquets has been instrumental in the club’s continued growth, contributing his vision and quality in midfield, as well as his experience and leadership, and playing a role in winning both the Supporters’ Shield and the Leagues Cup.”

While the focus for Inter Miami remains what transpires in the playoffs, the South Florida club are taking a break from that pressure. On Saturday, the Herons will be making that day one dedicated to Busquets as the club will honor the player after their game against the New England Revolution.

“This Saturday, Oct. 4 join us for a special tribute at Chase Stadium as Inter Miami CF commemorates Sergio Busquets’ illustrious career post-game following the Club’s MLS regular season game against the New England Revolution (7:30 p.m. ET kick off),” the press release said. “After the final whistle, make sure to stay in your seats for the tribute for the legendary Spanish midfielder, who will retire at the end of the current season…
