Inter Miami have dealt with issues on their backline, and they are about to boost that area with a former Tottenham Hotspur player.
Ever since the Lionel Messi era began in 2023, the South Florida club have been heavy on offense. However, the defense group has been lacking and struggling. While in MLS there’s a salary cap and so much money can be spent, the Herons haven’t figured it out.
Moreover, one can argue that they haven’t had as much success in the Messi era because of their inability to put together a quality defense with the available financial resources that are available.
MLS clubs usually push their finances toward attackers and sometimes midfielders and whatever is left will go to the defense and goalkeeping. Nonetheless, it can oftentimes backfire, which has been the case with Inter Miami.

On Friday, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Inter Miami is in advanced talks to sign Sergio Reguilón.
The deal is progressing for the left-back to join the MLS club on a free transfer following his departure from Tottenham Hotspur in July. Reguilón is reportedly leaning toward Inter Miami, viewing it as his top choice despite having several other offers.

Reguilón made 73 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur, scoring two goals and recording nine assists.
He also spent time at other Premier League clubs, including Brentford, with 16 appearances and four assists, and Manchester United, with 12 appearances. His pace and attacking runs from the left flank made him a solid presence in defense and offense.
Nonetheless, it seems heading to the United States and putting himself in a high-profile situation like the one with Inter Miami beats whatever options he had in Europe. It will be interesting to see if Reguilón can be a piece to the defensive puzzle that at least can make the group look average.
