Javier Mascherano and his Inter Miami team are on a two-match winless streak with three fixtures left in the 2025 MLS season after their brutal 5-3 loss to the Chicago Fire on Tuesday night at Chase Field.
Luis Suárez struck twice while Tomás Avilés added another, accounting for all the team’s goals in the loss. Chicago took the lead in the 11th minute through Dje D’Avilla, and Jonathan Dean made it 2-0 in the 31st.
Inter Miami responded in the 39th minute when Avilés finished from close range after a corner, his second goal of the regular season. Moreover, Rominigue Kouamé recorded a third for Chicago in the 43rd, sending the match into halftime at 3-1.
Afterward, the Herons came close early in the second half as Lionel Messi and Tadeo Allende struck the woodwork in the 52nd minute. Luis Suárez pulled one back in the 57th to cut the deficit to a single goal.
Suárez notched his second goal in the 74th minute, curling a shot to the far post to finish a sharp team sequence and make it 3-3. Nonetheless, the Fire responded with two quick strikes, as Justin Reynolds scored in the 80th minute and Brian Gutiérrez added another in the 83rd for a 5-3 result.
